In a world where genre tags are becoming less and less relevant, We Are Among Storms could be considered many things, but ‘post’ all of them. The Danish quartet often adopt the shamanic, propulsive bass of Killing Joke’s post-punk, as well as the wiry, angular guitar stabbing of Fugazi’s post-hardcore, but mostly in the mountainous crush of post-metal that Neurosis or Today Is The Day would decimate you with. If that sounds like an exciting proposition then that’s because it is, with the blasting, searing Creation managing to straddle all three at once with thrilling results. But, while the elements are all there, the lofty ambition of the band is occasionally slightly too much for them to harness into a song of the same quality. Perfect the songwriting craft and there is something special to come from them.
