Bird strike
Sir,
It was great to see the recent advert for Wild Justice in Private Eye 1645, as a regular reader I felt you were truly leading the way in publishing this.
I’ve since heard that two more adverts were planned but haven’t been published. Please can you go ahead with these? You honestly really stood out to me, because you had the guts to publish such a needed piece, given the current climate – not many publications would.
[It wasn’t a “piece”, it was an advert. This was the problem. Ed]
TAM O’MALLEY (“Mythological Animals: From Basilisks to Unicorns”, now available in all good book shops).
… I would like to let you know that when I saw your Wild Justice cartoon against pheasant shooting I was delighted. Wow, Private Eye is teaming up to stop the sport that means pheasant litter our countryside.
[Not “teaming up”, just running an advert. This was the problem. Ed.]
My garden has eight pheasants left over from the shooting season. Why oh why did you pull the ads? I will no longer purchase Private Eye till the ads are reinstated.
IONE BAREAU, Knayton.
… Regarding the Wild Justice advertisement, and subsequent letters printed in opposition to it (Eye 1646):
1. The figures quoted in the advertisement actually come from the pro-shooting Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT).
