SCANDAL SHEET
SO MUCH for the new government’s promise finally to ride to the rescue of victims of the worst of the UK’s long-running public scandals.
Last week, Sir Brian Langstaff announced further hearings into the infected blood scandal on which he reported nearly a year ago. Such are the “gravity” of concerns expressed repeatedly to the inquiry over compensation delays that they “merit exploration in public”. Evidently the government and its compensation authority can’t be trusted to get their act together – and “people infected and affected do not have time on their side”, Langstaff added.
