Evictor spoils
A FRIEND of an enormously talented but reclusive artist has commissioned the Art Loss Register to try to find artworks that are estimated to be worth a total of £10m but were seized by one of the UK’s largest housing providers during an eviction dispute.
Henry Orlik, now 78, caused excitement in the art world as a young man when he was exhibited alongside René Magritte, Salvador Dalí and Max Ernst. After the rising star fell out with an art dealer, he became a recluse, painting alone in his south London flat, which he rented from Southern Housing for 30 years.
