KHAN COUP
IT HAS been a busy few weeks for Claire Holland, Labour leader of the London borough of Lambeth.
First, she was off to Cannes for MIPIM, the notorious “booze and hooker fest” – sorry, prestigious international property conference – hawking six of the council’s housing estates for sale to international developers.
At the same time Cllr Holland has been plotting what is in effect a coup against London mayor Sir Sadiq Khan. She is chair of an umbrella organisation called London Councils. Twenty-five years after the creation of the Greater London Authority, the 32 borough leaders plus the City of London are now demanding a share of the mayor’s powers.
