GNOME CINEMA
THE poster for
Sinners
features dapper men in sharp suits, ladies in flapper attire, a blues guitarist and a good ole boy in braces looking like he’s up for no good. It promises heated southern melodrama, heaving chests and cotton fields, rednecks and obese sheriffs in shirts a size too small. Vampires don’t even enter into it. No sir, this ain’t no horror vehicle.
Such reticence is understandable: being a $90m horror film is not something to go shouting about. With the odd exception (World War Z, It Chapters 1 & 2), movie executives prefer their horror films to be cheap and bought in bulk.
