NEARLY a decade after a court case established the principle that councillors who fail to pay their council tax have no right to privacy, some councils are still refusing to name names.
An investigation by the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) has found that since 2022 both Newcastle city council and Durham county council have each taken councillors to court for non-payment on four occasions – but both are refusing to identify which members were summonsed.
