PARKS & RECREATION
WHEN word spread that a 500-year-old oak tree had been felled in Whitewebbs Park, Enfield, the thoughts of local people turned to Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs have been the villains in this part of north London ever since the plan to fence off a large chunk of Whitewebbs was revealed in 2021. In a £2m deal with Enfield council, one of the world’s richest football clubs will gain control of 53 hectares of prime green belt, with planning approval recently granted for a women’s training centre that will close off public access to a third of this area.
