Director Gary J Tunnicliffe reveals all about detective thriller Hellraiser: Judgment
THE TENTH HELLRAISER FILM has spent a long time in release date limbo. Started in 2015 and released in the States in 2018, it’s finally just been released in the UK on Blu-ray.
“It’s really a detective story,” says director Gary J Tunnicliffe, down the line from his home in Bucharest. “Two detectives – brothers – are searching for a killer called The Preceptor, who is using the Ten Commandments as his MO. They’re struggling with the case, and one of the brothers is cracking under the strain of it all. And that intersects with the Hellraiser side of things.”
Tunnicliffe has a long history with the franchise, stretching back to creating make-up effects for 1992’s Hell On Earth, but this is his first time directing a full Hellraiser feature. “I didn’t want to just retread the classic stuff, I wanted to do something new,” he says.
