HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP
BLU-RAY DEBUT An exploitation flick whose behind-the-scenes story is as interesting as on-screen events, this product of Roger Corman’s New World Pictures turns Creature From The Black Lagoon’s bestiality subtext into lurid text, while also riffing on Jaws and Alien, as a fishing town is attacked by slimy, teethy gill men (the result of experimental hormones for speeding salmon growth), eager to mate with its women. The work of The Thing’s Rob Bottin, they’re impressively revolting – though one suit’s gibbon-like arms do prompt guffaws.
