road testers had the chance to sample some of 2024’s hotly anticipated new metal.
Matt Saunders delivered a four-star first drive verdict on the “polished” new electric Mini Cooper SE and gave the same star rating to the Lotus Eletre, which he described as “a giant leap of a luxury SUV” after it trounced the Audi SQ8 E-tron in an electric SUV showdown.
Matt Prior, meanwhile, sampled the latest exotica from Aston Martin, awarding the Vantage a 4.5-star verdict and calling it “an old-school sports coupé with charm, speed and noise”.
He also took David Brown Automotive’s £150,000 Mini eMastered for a jaunt around London and concluded that the electric restomod was “great fun”, despite feeling a little exposed alongside the capital’s real taxi, the Range Rover.
Afleet of new EVs landed in May, with the affordable Citroën ë-C3, the sporty Cupra Born VZ and the off-road-ready Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ all gaining four-star ratings.
