COOKING VINYL Ex-Chariot/Norma Jean frontman hits the American dustroads
Josh Scogin is a hero to many for his tenure in both The Chariot and Norma Jean, but he’s done some excellent work since, with both prior ’68 albums sounding like an audacious mix of Robert Johnson Delta blues and the chaotic squalor of early Nirvana. The best duos thrive on chemistry and Josh’s howled wail and overdriven guitar melds beautifully with Nikko Yamada’s busy, powerhouse drumming. The Knife, The Knife, The Knife and The Storm, The Storm, The Storm writhe with seething tension, as if the duo are sizing one another up before an epic Western gunfight, while Nickels And Diamonds borrows from The Stooges’ I Wanna Be Your Dog to scintillating effect. ★★★★★★★☆☆☆
