Nordic black metallers light an overly welcoming fire
Ever since this pure product of the underground signed to Peaceville four years ago, their sole proper member Thomas Eriksen had been trying the find that elusive balance between tradition and accessibility. Mork’s fifth full-length picks up things from where Darkthrone left them in the late 90s – still necro but with a newfound, rock’n’roll attitude – and runs with it: rough around the edges with piercing riffing and lyrics in Eriksen’s mother tongue to enhance the Nordic sensibilities further. But Kathedralen is strangely less confrontational than you’d expect, like a grim yet highly desirable invitation to dance around the fire.
