Emotionally charged atmospherics from a masterful solo debutant
That this album is the creation of just one man is impressive in itself. Lined In Silver is Jason Roberts’ first release as a solo artist and the quality and depth is striking. It is a wellconstructed, atmospheric concept album with thoughtful lyrics and dark, poignant music that treks across landscapes of doom, post-metal, shoegaze and beyond, and whose track lengths span from five to 12 and a half minutes. He transitions from clean to harsh screams powerfully in The Forgotten Ones and toys smartly with the deliberate and the unhinged throughout A Year On Fire, but little beats Like Wires’ magical combination of the brutal and euphoric, and echoes of souring verses and haunting effects. There are glimpses of Tool and Isis here, and yet the end result is captivatingly cohesive.
