Former old-school thrashers get a futuristic upgrade
They say that a change is as good as a rest, and for the band formerly known as Distillator that old proverb feels apt. Dispensing with their old-school thrash sound in favour of a more experimental approach – which they’ve dubbed “futuristic multi-metal eruption” – Cryptosis’s debut album sees the Dutch trio finally find their feet and ready to kick some ass. Exploring a future where runaway technology controls humanity in a variety of sinister ways, this concept album draws on progressive, symphonic, death, thrash and black metal influences to create a record that’s a pigeonholedefying thrillride from start to finish. Death Technology really impresses with its fusion of Sadusesque rapier riffs and latterday Pantera grooves, as does Prospect Of Immortality, a raging Frankenstein’s Monster of styles that’ll earn them lots of new fans.
