THE Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust (SDRT) at Midsomer Norton has boosted its wagon fleet with the acquisition of an ex-British Railways‘SNCF’ 16T mineral wagon from the National Railway Museum.
Built for use in liberated France post-Second World War, these wagons were imported back into Britain in 1950 and became a part of BR’s coal wagon fleet. The trust says it has photographic evidence of these wagons around the Somerset coal fields and S&D, often being hauled by a Fowler 7F 2-8-0.
