WITH the downturn in passengers flying due to the pandemic and the suspension of the Gatwick Express service, Govia Thameslink Railway has transferred a number of Class 387/2 EMUs to work Great Northern routes out of King’s Cross. Prior to this, units had been working Southern services in their distinctive red livery, adding capacity, and sets had been used on East Coastway services to Eastbourne and Hastings. Now the debranded units are working on the East Coast Main Line as far north as King’s Lynn. They are replacing the Class 365s, which have been stood down. Three sets have transferred, Nos. 387201-3, and the latter is seen partnered with white set 387126 at King’s Cross, about to work the 14.12 to Ely on May 15. ALISDAIR ANDERSON
