THE first of HS2’s giant Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) began digging its way north under the Chilterns on May 13.
Named Florence by local schoolchildren in honour of Florence Nightingale, the 170m-long 2000-tonne TBM is the largest machine of its kind ever deployed in Britain.
