A SIX-WEEK public consultation began on May 24 on a plan to increase rail capacity through Ely, which aims to improve reliability and connectivity for passenger services and trains serving the Port of Felixstowe. Changes to the Soham branch line and Ely Dock Junction as well as track and platforms at Ely station are planned, as are upgrades to Stutney Road bridge and two bridges over the Great Ouse at Ely Marina.
Kiln Lane level crossing could be closed, although there are options to maintain pedestrian and vehicle access to the eastern side of the railway.
