Watching the ugly Oval Office showdown between Trump, JD Vance and Volodymyr Zelensky in February, the UK Spectator was outraged, declaring the US president guilty of a “dirty deal” on its cover and getting a host of writers to attack him. Particularly upset was the mag’s chairman Charles Moore, who despaired at “the bully-boy tactics of Trump and JD Vance”, while the leader column warned: “Trump has shifted the world in Putin’s favour.”
