THE rudderless and increasingly unhinged Telegraph is busy boosting the profile of a husband-and-wife team who seem determined to become the reactionary Richard and Judy: Guy and Elisabeth Dampier.
Last month the paper commissioned regular contributor Guy to write one of a series of essays on immigration, which appeared online with the headline: “A million illegal migrants live among us. It’s time for mass deportations.” His piece contained highly dubious figures, including the claim that “when polled, 84 percent of the British public supported so-called mass deportations”, which was based on a questionable survey that referred only to people who commit “violent crimes” and not all asylum seekers.
