RATEPAYER REVENGE!
TIM FOSTER neatly turned the tables on a local council that owed him money by taking it to court – then threatening to send in bailiffs when it didn’t pay up.
Foster and his family had moved house a few miles from East Hunsbury in Northants to Rothwell, and in doing so had moved from one local authority area (West Northants) to another (North Northants). He calculated that he was due a refund of £152 council tax already paid to West Northants, so he asked for it back. He told the Northampton Chronicle that when the council failed to respond, he called it and warned: “When you thought we owed you money you were quick to send a court summons within 14 days – so it’s not unreasonable to expect you to pay us back in 14 days.” It told him it would do so eventually, but he was insistent that unless he was paid by a set date he would take legal action.
