2 Due to an error by the casting director, Sir David was offered the role of RAF Squadron Leader Roger Bartlett in the film The Great Escape, a part which should have gone to his brother, Sir Dickie. The mistake was only realised when David insisted the script be rewritten to involve an escape by lemurs from Berlin Zoo.
