FREIGHTLINER’S Ipswich training academy took delivery of a driving simulator on November 27.
It is the company’s first full cab replica simulator in the UK. Another will be situated at its academy in Doncaster.
The simulators are fitted with ETCS (European Train Control System) digital in-cab signalling equipment to prepare drivers for the introduction of the technology on the East Coast Main Line between King’s Cross and Stoke Tunnel over the next five years.
They have been designed so they can be dismantled and moved between different locations and will use a single source of connectivity to ensure that all the routes and scenarios will be consistent.
Drivers will also be able to feel motion from their seat in the simulator cab, giving them a realistic impression of acceleration and braking, curves and points.
