CHROME WAVES
Where We Live

Former Nachtmystium guitarist broadens his palette of gloom
Chrome Waves were first formed almost a decade ago with Jeff Wilson (ex-Nachtmystium, Abigail Williams) at the helm. They released one well-received EP and then disappeared for nigh-on eight years. This, however, is their second full-length in as many years. Where We Live starts on the BM-influenced tones of Hallow Dreams; glittering guitars and guttural vocals construct a mournful atmosphere before the record glides through the post-punk façade of On The Precipice and onwards to the funereal melancholy of Where You Live. Ostensibly, Chrome Waves are post-black metal, but their sound moves around post-punk and takes in elements of early 90s grunge, too. Spoonfed is one example, melding all these genres to create a despondent yet invitingly lustrous atmosphere of self-reflection and loss.
