RIPPLE MUSIC
Inspired stoner heaviness with a potent sonic pedigree
Kind are a well-cultivated supergroup, featuring former members of Elder and Roadsaw. Their second full-length takes its cue from the stoner sounds of the 90s, and it works well. The combination of Craig Riggs’ stark vocals and Darryl Shepard’s doom-laden guitarwork draws you in from the start. This combination brings to life the threatening sludge of Bad Friend and the haunting Alice In Chains-style bleakness of the title track. There’s more of an uptempo feel to Broken Tweaker and It’s Your Head, but these still have a dark menace to drive them onward. Trigger Happy is a slothful, monochrome epic teetering on the precipice of insanity and Faster Number Two has a venomously spitting melody. Restless yet engaging, this is an album for stoner aficionados.
