Texan metalcore veterans make a weighty return
Two years on from Dark Skies, these Texas metallers’ sixth album proves to be a much heavier experience. Boasting stronger songwriting and bludgeoning percussion with anthemic nous, their fusion of metal-core and post-hardcore has never sounded so potent. The Face Of Hate’s twin harmonies descend into brutish breakdowns while the title track’s simple but catchy refrain and Breaking The Mirror’s soaring chorus are Killswitch-esque metal-core at its finest. God Of Fire and Louder Voice introduce bursts of skittering electronica, slipping into nihilistic grooves with ease. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel but The Path twists and turns with just the right amount of neck-bothering thrills and experimentation to titillate fans old and new.
