Roaring Eye
AMOR FATI
A melodic black metal masterclass from Blut Aus Nord blastmaster
The first thing that immediately strikes you about Roaring Eye is the mournful clean singing that, when paired with rapid blasts and tremolo-flurry guitars, adds an interesting contrast to black metal. The brainchild of Omega, who will be familiar to underground aficionados from his time in Fides Inversa and on the drum-throne for Blut Aus Nord, Moloch and other unsavoury acts, Roaring Eye is remarkably well-realised for a debut. Omega’s timbre is reminiscent of the yearning melodrama of Primordial’s Alan Averill, acting as a magnetic beacon through the deathrocked BM miasma underpinning his impassioned, arcane decrees. The gifted multi-instrumentalist knows exactly what he’s aiming for here and strikes a deft balance between melody and extremity, which speaks of his seasoned skills as a composer.
