EXIST
Egoiista
PROSTHETIC
Wide-ranging prog metal with a whiff of the ethereal
The intelligent technical design and sheer scope of Exist’s third studio album is perhaps best evidenced by the 10-minute opening epic, Through Suffering He Paints The Universe - a labyrinthine, 10-minute journey of jazz-inflected and discordant melodies. Despite this potentially intimidating start, Egoiista proves to be a treasure trove of colourful and dynamic delights. Delicately ethereal, melodic offerings Siblings Born Into Different Dimensions and Amongst The Trees lie as comfortable bedfellows with more agitated passages of distorted, technical guitarwork present in Until The Storm Comes and Egocosm. Topped with vocalists Max Phelps’ and Alex Weber’s back-andforth vocal pendulum of cleanly sung melodies and powerful gutterals, Exist’s exploratory prog metal warrants multiple listens to fully appreciate the undeniable wealth of ideas packed into Egoiista’s extensive listening experience.
