“WE ARE in the second American Revolution,” Kevin Roberts, president of the Heritage Foundation, told an audience earlier this summer, one aimed at “renewing sovereignty and self-governance and faith in fellow man”.
As a result, America’s electoral maps should be redrawn to ensure that the right people’s voices were heard. Well, the far-right people’s voices, really – the Heritage Foundation is the thinktank behind “Project 2025”, a strategic plan for low-tax Christian authoritarianism in America.
Many of Project 2025’s allegedly populist suggestions are, in fact, deeply unpopular, such as cutting healthcare programs. Donald Trump loudly disowned Project 2025 during the campaign, but his Big Beautiful Bill slashes Medicaid, while giving tax cuts to the rich. The Heritage Foundation’s enthusiasm for gerrymandering is therefore an insurance policy against voter revolts.
