Police in Lochaber are urging locals to be wary of scam phone calls following a recent suspected attempted fraud. The warning follows recent calls to elderly residents by a man claiming to be from the HMRC demanding repayment of more than £2,000 in alleged unpaid taxes. Fortunately no bank details or money was handed over and the concerned recipients of the call asked their lawyer to make contact with the apparent fraudster. Sergeant Deborah McCartney of Lochaber Community Policing Team said: ‘These residents did the right thing by not passing on any details. ‘An organisation like the HMRC or your bank would not cold call demanding money so do not agree to passing on any personal details over the phone.’
