A free telephone counselling service remains available to people affected by sight loss in Argyll and Bute. The Need to Talk project, which offers free counselling and confidence-building support, is run by the Royal National Institute of Blind People Scotland. Through the project, people are helped to come to terms with sight loss, or that of a family member, and to face the future with confidence. The service, supported by the European Union’s INTERREG VA programme, is available in areas of the west of Scotland. Campbell Chalmers, director of RNIB Scotland, said: ‘Being told you will lose even some of your sight can, of course, be devastating news. We know that people can need both emotional and practical support to adapt. ‘Our Need to Talk service is made up of skilled counsellors and confidence-building professionals who can help people come to terms with their sight condition and maximise their independence, providing a friendly and reassuring voice to people and addressing any concerns and worries they may have.’
