Pedal power has won pupils and staff from Strath of Appin Primary School and Nursery two top awards. The small school heard the great news just before they broke up for the holidays. They have been awarded first place across the whole of Scotland and for the entire UK for getting 100 per cent of its youngsters to cycle to school on one particular day as part of a challenge set by Sustrans. The Big Pedal event has become an annual highlight of the school’s calendar over the years. Pupils and staff cycle or scooter along the Sustrans cycle track route 78 which runs along past the school. ‘It is a beautiful scenic route which everyone enjoys using. The staff at the school appreciate the support of family and friends who help to transport bikes, trikes and scooters to the school, enabling everyone to take part,’ said teacher Elsa Shepton.
