THE return to traffic of Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway’s (WLLR) S F Belge 0-8-0T (ex-No. 699.01) No. 10 Sir Drefaldwyn is expected to coincide with WLLR’s June 17/18 ‘60 Years of Preservation’weekend.
Sir Drefaldwyn last ran in early 2000. Following a period in storage the decision to commence overhauling it was made in late 2013, but the project encountered multiple setbacks.
The boiler has now passed hydraulic and steam examinations, with fitting boiler lagging and painting, in preparation for final assembly, now in progress. The June 17/18 event will celebrate the 60th anniversary of WLLR being preserved and 120 years since the original opening of the line.
