Keep Oban Beautiful is waging war on an invasive plant strangling wildlife along the Black Lynn. The campaign’s chairman, Maurice Wilkins, hopes as many people as possible will turn out at the Lynnfinext to Tesco this Sunday, August 5, from 11am to give a helping hand.
Although it is attractive to bees, it spreads easily and stops other natural vegetation from growing, said Mr Wilkins. ‘The idea is just to pull it up and leave it where it is, if we leave it too much later the seeds will spill and explode everywhere. We’d be talking millions of them! It’s a maniac,’ added Mr Wilkins who is urging people not to take seeds and plant them in their own gardens.
