Last week the Lochaber Times reported how there were investigations into more than 1,000 missing persons across the Highlands, prompting calls for greater awareness and support for those who have vanished and those they leave behind. At the Scottish Parliament, Coatbridge and Chryston MSP Fulton MacGregor has been campaigning to ensure better implementation across the country.
Local MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch Kate Forbes called the figures ‘deeply upsetting’. The Lochaber Times has now obtained a breakdown of the figures. The 2017-18 figures for the South Highland area, which includes Lochaber, Skye and Lochalsh, and Badenoch and Strathspey, record a total of 141 investigations into reports of missing adults and children.
Of this number, 37 were adults, two were cared-for adults, 51 were looked-after children and another 51 were children.
