Winter resilience provision will be discussed at Sunart Community Council’s meeting on Thursday August 9. The council is wanting to hear from residents as to whether Strontian should have some communal grit bins and shovels to help volunteers clear snow. The Highland Council winter resilience programme offers help to communities which want to take action in their own areas to help clear snow and ice from footpaths.
The programme states: ‘While we operate a Theet of over 40 footpath gritting tractors, we know that resources are not always suffcient to clear every path and recognise that communities may themselves be able to treat a more extensive path network earlier.’
The council will provide grit, shovels and snow pushers, gloves and high visibility clothing, health and safety advice and insurance.
