Islay lifeboat was called out on Thursday July 26 to help a 14-metre yacht that had lost power and was drifting. At 5.50pm, Belfast Coastguard called on the Islay RNLI to go to the aid of the yacht as it drifted offthe north-east end of Gigha in good visibility but a strong wind.
The Helmut Schroder of Dunlossit II was launched at 6.15pm with a crew of seven on board and made good time to the disabled vessel.
On arrival at the scene, it was discovered that there was a rope around the yacht’s propeller so it was taken in tow. She was safely brought to Kennacraig where she was met by Tarbert Coastguard who had also been alerted.
