The Argyll and Bute Trust is celebrating its 40th year by providing every primary one pupil in the region with a hi-viz vest. The trust was originally set up in 1977 to honour the Queen’s silver jubilee, before receiving its charter in 1978.
It was only intended to be a temporary organisation, but, owing to the commitment of the original trustees and those who followed, the trust has gone from strength to strength and is about to celebrate its ruby anniversary. To celebrate the anniversary, the trust met in Oban’s Royal Hotel, where a grant of £2,500 was given to Toward Sailing Club, which will allow the club to purchase new equipment to benefit those interested in taking up the sport.
The chairman of the trust, Dan Edgar, said: ‘I derive much personal pleasure in assisting the work of the Argyll and Bute Trust and hope to do so for some time in the future.’
