£ “There’s been a sudden rise in the popularity of adult pacifiers among Chinese adults,” Li Hongyang told readers in Beijing, “with over 10,000 units of one brand alone being sold online this year. Users claim the pacifiers help them curb habits such as smoking, snacking, improving sleep quality and reducing anxiety, preventing teeth grinding at night, and even silencing a snoring spouse. Others attribute weight loss and emotional comfort to their use. The top-selling adult pacifiers measure 4.5cms in length, twice as long as an infant’s pacifier, and retail at 15.90 yuan [£1.65] each.”
