HOUSING chiefs hit by delays hope to make a ‘meaningful’ start on five new affordable homes on Colonsay this year.
The project at Port Mor was approved 14 months ago but West Highland Housing Association’s chief executive Lesley McInnes said more land has to be secured first for the scheme to be a ‘success’. A third party involved is now taking professional advice, she said.
Meanwhile, the lack of available housing is driving skilled inhabitants off the island. If part-time NHS worker Roz Jewell and her handyman husband Chris can’t find somewhere else to live by July, Colonsay could lose two key workers sharing seven jobs between them - from district nurse assistant to island plumber.
