■ A notice was pinned up in the High Street doorway of Lodge Fort William 43 last week, proclaiming the masonic hall was NOT being used at that particular time for a sitting of the district court. ‘Intriguing’, thought I. ‘Does that mean there will soon be notices outside the hall stating the premises ARE being used for district court and sheriff court hearings? That could cause lots of ribaldry for a while until the court house at the West End is back in business. This week, however, with due ‘notice’, I presented myself at the masonic hall for what was supposed to be the historic first court hearing there - only to discover the case was being heard in camera.
■ No sooner had the Aonach Mor road been given the green light, than the Strathclyde University experts were issuing statements that there will be precious little Scottish ski-ing from here on in. Their global warming warning avers that our winters will be at least a couple of degrees up on past years and there won’t be much snow to ski on.
