Oban and Lorn Lions Club handed over a £500 cheque to the Oban High School Pipe Band last Thursday night at McCaig’s Tower. Throughout the summer, the band regularly hosts practise sessions at the tower, while the Lions raise money through donations and a fundraising stall. Nan Johnstone of Oban High School Pipe Band said: ‘The band relies on the public’s generosity. We have now got more than 40 pupils competing_at the five major competitions this year, and a new band is starting. This means we will have 64 competitors going to competitions that will have to be bussed and kitted out. We keep our costing at a minimum. But the more there are, the harder it is.’
