A FORT WILLIAM building site labourer was banned from driving for two years and fined £630 after having so much alcohol in his bloodstream a sheriff said she was surprised he could walk, let alone drive a car.
Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald had deferred sentence on John Gillespie, 61, of the town’s High Street, at an earlier court appearance for the preparation of a criminal justice social work report.
Gillespie had pleaded guilty earlier to driving a car on December 1, 2017, on the A830 road at Lochy Bridge with a blood alcohol level of 234mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 50mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
