OFFICER’S MESS
FRESH-FACED
Sunday Times
deputy political editor Harry Yorke has made a splash with a surprise career move. Later this year, Yorke will jump ship from the

to become naval assistant to First Sea Lord Sir Gwyn Jenkins, the highest-ranking officer in the British navy.
Yorke’s move from journalism to the navy might mean slightly less drinking, but also raises the question: why might his new boss want a savvy media operator on his team? Perhaps because Jenkins’s previous roles before becoming First Sea Lord last May mean he is likely to catch flak in the independent inquiry relating to Afghanistan, which wraps up this year.
