BATTLE FOR BROCKWELL
LAMBETH in sarf London lurches from one self-inflicted crisis to another, this time losing a high court challenge over closure of large tracts of Brockwell Park in Herne Hill to host commercial music events.
Mr Justice Mould ordered the council to pay a group of residents’ £35,000 legal costs, ruling that Lambeth’s planning department had failed to provide a legal certificate for partial closure of the park behind an 11-foot fence, described by actor and campaigner Mark Rylance as looking like a “prison camp”.
