Talking dirty
Getting Sh*t Done Roo Day (Ebury Publishing, £16.99)
ROO DAY, as her publisher bugles on the inner flap of this very pink Sunday Times bestseller, is “one of the UK’s fastest growing cleaning-focused content creators”.
For those discombobulated by such vigorously #online language an explainer is clearly in order. To wit: Roo Day (aka @homewithroo, aka Rachel Davies-Day) is a (small, blonde) 30-year-old from Radlett who makes videos of herself cleaning her (large, beige) house.
The resulting short films are then uploaded to her various, hugely popular, social media accounts, where they are accompanied by unvarnished voiceovers (“I’ve been sweating my absolute tits off”) and the obligatory #fusillade of #maddening #hashtags. Some of these videos find Day speed-sponging her marble-effect worktops using a variety of inexpensive cleaning products (“live, laugh, love CIF CREAM”). Others find her calling her toilet an arsehole while her rectangular boyfriend looks on silently in his sliders (#toilet #toiletduck #bog #sliders #arsehole).
