Brewers droop
GIANT global lager brewers seem hell-bent on destroying Britain’s ale heritage, with the likes of Heineken and Carlsberg closing breweries on the specious grounds there’s falling demand for cask beer.
In 2022 Carlsberg merged with a major brewery in Burton-on-Trent to form the Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company. The Danes, who control 60 percent of the business and chair the company, have gone on the rampage, closing Jennings in Cumbria, Wychwood in Oxfordshire and Ringwood in Hampshire. Banks’s in Wolverhampton will close this autumn in its 150th year.
