SNOOKER QUEUES
THE television channel formerly known as Channel 5 – now simply 5 – seems to have snookered Britain’s other terrestrial channels in a rights deal that could snatch both the green-baize game and darts from under their rivals’ noses.
It comes just as these sports are enjoying a boost in global popularity: Zhao Xintong’s win at the snooker world championship in Sheffield this month is expected to supercharge interest in the sport in his native China, which already has 300,000 snooker halls.
