WHEN Polish company Remontowa won a contract in March to build seven new ferries to serve Scottish islands, it was bad news for British shipbuilding but probably a blessing for Scottish islanders, who would like to see new ferries in the foreseeable future (

At any rate, disappointed Scottish bidder Ferguson Marine will still be busy with the long overdue Glen Rosa ferry until next summer, after new chief executive Graeme Thomson announced this month that it won’t be ready to enter service this September after all. With completion now pushed back to “April to June 2026”, costs also rose yet again.
